Forest honey is darker in color than other common types of honey.

It is exceptionally high in mineral and nutrient content: just one teaspoon can equal 2-4 teaspoons of other types of honey.

In additional to its nutritional value, the higher price is caused by its scarcity and the fact that the amount of honeydew is dependent on climatic conditions.

Honeydew, which is the basis of all honeydew honey, is an insect product, more specifically the product of scale insects and aphids. These insects bite into leaves and consume their juices as a source of food, later excreting it onto leaves, where bees can forage it and process it into honey.

It comes mostly from the leafy and mixed mountain forests from the areas of Donovaly and Spiš.
